Recently discovered spyware may be very difficult to remove, reports saying that it is being used by National Security Agencies. Report released by Kaspersky Labs, a popular anti-virus software, says a group called “Equation” is behind the spyware. The spyware is embedded into the hard drives firmware, making it practically impossible to remove.
Kaspersky is a Moscow based company found this new form of spyware on many computers acquired across the middle east. Reports link this spyware back to “Equation” group which has links to the NSA. The spyware is found in the drives firmware which is difficult to change. Sources say that the drive manufacturers like Western Digital, Seagate, and other top manufacturers had to release their source code for it to be embedded from the beginning. There is some more information out there but of course it’s most companies are agencies are denying any involvement.
